the literature of my youth...

ah bsc....i miss those books. the babysitters club was a major part of my life. I had the entire collection (including the special super editions - usually trips etc). I would buy them in the day and have them read by the time i went to bed that night. I loved them. and obviously dawn and stacey were my favourites....dawn because i thought it was cool and romantic to be very surfer-chick, and have a laid back attitude, and stacey because she was from new york and the fashion icon of the club. (claud was clothes crazy, but perhaps a bit too quirky) I believe i actually went shopping thinking about what stacey would buy... in a moment of generosity my mum gave the entire collection (yes i had them ALL) away to friends with young girls when i was in university. I only disciovered it when i took children's lit and "had to" read one of them for a project. i was devestated. i know times change and probably my future kids won't find them very interesting to read, just as i felt when my mum gave me her old nancy drew books, but still i wish i had them. It would be great to read one again...i wonder what i would think of the stories now.

its weird to think about my kids and what they will be reading...or if they will be readers (i have one strike against them with a husband who has only finished one book in his lifetime - yes that includes for scholastic purposes). people have been talking to me a lot about kids lately i guess its because lyndon and i are rounding the five year mark this coming january...people are waiting with bated breath for some big announcement. it's a crazy thing to think about really, i mean don't get me wrong i love kids, i love hanging out with my cousins, and to some extent i think kids tend to be drawn to me. (not tooting my own horn, i just find that i can be somewhere and usually i end up at the kids table - and not cause i'm sloppy) i just wonder at what point in your life you get that "want". i dont have the "want"...yet. i have a friend (the guilty shall remain nameless) who believed in an anti-kid movement for quite sometime...well im being a little dramatic, but she was not interested anyways. then she got married and she said as she walked back down the aisle at the end of the ceremony she thought...."hmmm...babies would be good". how does that happen? i firmly believe that you shouldn't have kids just because, that you need that epiphany...you should want them with no ifs, ands, or buts. but what happens if the feeling comes to little to late? what then....ah well i am glad that i got married early in life, it leaves me with the luxury iof time to travel and enjoying my husband (sans kids) and so far that fits me just fine.
