brain looking a-ok

yesterday i was a part of a research study on women who have experienced severe brain trauma - no jokes necessary ;) - it was weird it was a flash back to what is almost a 9 year anniversary of sorts. 9 years ago this coming good friday, was my car accident. how long ago that is now...and yet it seems as though it were just last year. i guess those types of life impacts leave an everlasting mark. its kinda' good to be reminded of where i was almost a decade ago, and how much i have to be thankful for. it helps to put things into perspective, and really keeps me in check. i talk about it with mariss every-so-often, its like i need to analyze every detail some days...what was the order of events, where could things have gotten worse, how fortunate i was, and how different my life could be right now. often, i think about how glad i am that i never had any scars on my face from the crash, but with my superficiality blinding me, i forget how its really that i can walk and talk and even think about this with coherence that i should be relishing.

it was interesting to be part of the study, i wanted to do it although it was an emotional encounter with my personal history. i wanted to do it because you never know how it might end up helping someone else, or even myself someday. the purpose of the study is to determine how brain trauma effects the on-going life of those who have experienced it, specifically women. it was kind of frightening actually to think that although i consider myself over it with no long term side effects of great concern, i might yet have complications that i will stumble upon over the rest of my life. how intricate we are, when one thing can effect something seeming unrelated in such profound ways.

I too have been waiting for my Heather blog fix. You entry was really interesting and it brought me back as well. I find myself sometimes talking about your accident with my family or some friends. It really left an impact on those of us around you. It helps me to realize how fragile life can be, and how we all could have lost such a good friend. I remember being at Sunnybrook the night of the accident and your dad bringing me into the icu...see...now I am tearing up. You were very brave even if you don't remember everything. And personally I think your head has all its fixings in the right place :) Love you xxoo (still quite emotional about it)
