i recently found out where that saying came from...its a weird one, apparently back in the day, the barmaid's job in the pubs was to keep track of what everyone was drinking and people always drank in pints and quarts, so she had to mind what everyone was having ....mind your p's and q's. I have had a busy week, and poor little bernice had surgery again...hopefully for the last time. She had the pins in her leg removed and was spayed and had some teeth pulled...poor lil thing, but the vet says she is actuing like she never had a problem! lyn is picking her up tonight. Stephanie is coming over tonight, i have only seen her briefly since she got engaged, but i did get to see the ring and its FABULOUS! (good job Jay) so I am excited to see her tonight and hear about all her plans - which to the dismay of other brides-to-be (a.k.a angela and laura) - are pretty much done...all in one week too...amazing, but thats steph, takes things in stride and gets them done...it also helps that in her family there are a hundred weddings a year. ps everyone is falling on love with my dog...see picture of grandpa and the "little mutt"
pps i made angela's just married sign last night...yayyay..its cute...i will take a picture and unveil my work after the wedding...it has to debut first!

Speaking of dogs, the phrase "raining cats and dogs" has a similar origin. In medieval days, farm houses had low thatched roofs. When a heavy rain would come it would not be unusual for the pets to climb onto the roof to stay out of the flood waters. Hence, a heavy rain means it is "raining cats and dogs."
the apple doesnt fall far from the tree does it....i wonder how long we can talk about these phrases....
