remembering...so as not to forget.

memory - i'm going to be honest - not my strong suit. but i claim innocence! honestly i have to say... its genetic. seriously! my nana...loses jewelry, sunglasses, car keys in the blink of an eye, hot rod, i'd like to see a count of how many people have sat waiting for him in a restaurant to have him not show....my bro, has forgotten his wallet, keys and cell phone everywhere from our house (every time he leaves) to the garbage can in a macdonalds on the 401(don't even ask the result on that one). so you can see...its clearly a rice gene. and although i really try....its not at all uncommon for me to forget stuff.

what i think is really weird is how much i can accurately remember from my childhood. i mean i can draw you a floor plan of my first house, tell you about my grandma's brother who would magically "cut" half his finger off when i was 3, the colour of the scary wall paper in my uncle jeff's room at his parents house, and can still hear my grandpa always saying "if you want to sell something, and its not selling...raise the price!" so maybe my long term memory is better than the short term. the thing is....i dont want to forget! i want to remember all the things that have happened during my life....this whole thought sort of came up when my art teacher from high school, whom i was very close to, died a week ago. she was a big part of my high school life, and when i was trying to think of defining moments and stories to share about her....i drew a blank. its not that she wasn't important, quite the contrary, it was that all i could remember was more a feeling...which ps is hard to translate into words. anyways...my new goal in life is to try to remember more...to go through photo albums, and talk with old friends and make sure that i tell my family and friends about things i want to stay with me.

some people just have it that ability to remember every eensy weensy detail (sommer!), but please, please... dont think me insensitive, or self-involved if you bump into me and i forget your name...its not intentional and trust me its way harder on me than you...its just im predisposed to be forgetful, and try as i might....its tough to overcome genetics ;)

I'm in the same boat! But as someone once told me the older you get the more things you have to remember! Think about how much less we had to remember back in school days. ?!?!

i think it has a lot to do with genetics --- my dad can remember serial numbers! as for my insane capacity for remembering details ---- i think i am just weird.
